global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The region south and east of Sossusvlei is one of Namibia&#8217;s most diverse landscapes. Different landforms alternate \u2013 from open plains to 6,500-foot mountain ranges, sandy dunes, and canyons with unexpectedly rich vegetation. These immediate transitions create the foundation for a correspondingly diverse wildlife.  <\/p>\n<p>The 34,500-acre <a href=\"https:\/\/ondili.com\/en\/ecology\/#wildland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wildland Namib Tsaris<\/a> nature reserve is one of several private conservation areas in this region. The spacious grounds offer various ways to spend the day \u2014 whether relaxing in the pool area, enjoying a cool drink in the shade at the desert bar and simply taking in the scenery, or taking advantage of the numerous activity options. <\/p>\n<p>Desert Homestead Lodge is located in a nature reserve covering over 320,000 acres, the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/ondili.com\/en\/ecology\/#wildland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wildland Namib Tsaris Nature Reserve<\/a>.&#8221; From the lodge, you can see the large red Elim Dune to the north, which is already part of the Sossusvlei National Park, the Nubib Mountains to the south, and the silhouette of the 6,500-foot Tsaris Plateau mountains to the east. <\/p>\n<p>The lodge offers hikes, horseback rides, or half-day nature drives into these areas. Namibia&#8217;s world-famous dune sea around Sossusvlei is not far away. As the distance increases, wide grass and sand plains open up, stretching over large areas and shaping the landscape. Dry riverbeds with camel thorn acacias crisscross these plains, while isolated, sand-swept inselbergs set striking accents. The frame is formed by the Tsaris Mountains, a mountain range up to 6,500 feet high. Despite the extreme conditions, a surprisingly diverse wildlife can be found here, adapted to the conditions of the Namib. The facility is extremely beautifully furnished; the room was probably the nicest room on our entire trip. During the day, we could watch oryx at the waterhole. We were there for two nights and did a guided tour to Sossusvlei (recommended, as you see everything important and don&#8217;t have to drive through the sand yourself &#8211; we saw some who got stuck). The food was top-notch, staff friendly.
