Sundowner Drive Etosha

Out and about in the day’s last light

In the late afternoon, you’ll head out into the landscape in open safari vehicles. The drives take you through the respective reserve surrounding the lodge. With a bit of luck, you might spot animals, while your guide explains the unique features of the surroundings and their interconnections.

As the sun sets, you’ll stop at a selected spot. While the sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, a moment of reflection and enjoyment unfolds – with views of the landscape and a cool drink to round off the day.

As the light fades, the landscape visibly transforms: ridges, dunes, and plains become clearer, long shadows trace their contours, while the sky and earth are painted in warm red, brown, and violet hues. As darkness falls, the path leads back to the lodge.

Sundowner above the Etosha Treetops

Sundowner above the Etosha Treetops

In the early evening, you’ll journey through the private nature reserve to a sundowner deck built on stilts, rising above the treetops.

From here, the view opens up over the surrounding landscape – and with a bit of luck, you might even spot wildlife that appears at this time of day. From this elevated perspective, movements are particularly easy to observe: among dense Mopane forests, in open areas, or along paths winding through the terrain.

A special place for sunset – with a cool drink in hand and a view over the landscape, as the light intensifies once more, bathing the surroundings in warm colors before darkness slowly takes over the scene.

Ondili Lodges, Regions, and Experiences

Each Ondili Lodge is inextricably linked to its surroundings—and that is exactly where the local experiences come from. What guests can do here isn't just based on a fixed program, but arises from the landscape itself.

Every region reveals different facets of Namibia: sometimes the focus is on the wildlife, sometimes on the vastness of the landscape or exploring on foot. The lodges embrace these unique features.

This creates an interplay of location, accommodation, and activity that makes each region uniquely experienceable – and invites you to discover Namibia from different perspectives.

What Our Guests Say

Do you want a dream vacation? Then come here. There’s nothing here you’d miss. It starts with the reception, continues with the 75 m² tented apartment, the excellent service, the best pool of all 10 lodges we stayed at on this trip, very fine food, excellent service, and very friendly staff. Waterhole directly in front of the lodge. During dinner, rhinos came by, numerous zebras, wildebeest, steenboks, impalas, etc. Definitely do the game drive, Alloys is a very good guide.

If you are looking for a lodge at the central southern entrance of Etosha National Park that is not dedicated to mass tourism and offers a high-quality value ratio, you will definitely reach your goal at this lodge. We at Leaflove Safari are happy to recommend this lodge to our discerning guests with a clear conscience.

Perfect stay, everything we enjoyed was of the best quality. The accommodation was very spacious, which was a blessing after 6 nights of camping with some thunderstorms. The kitchen offered us a culinary delight of the highest quality every evening. It was a great pleasure to enjoy our stay at the newest Ondili Lodge (without reservation). The staff was very friendly and highly attentive. Dankie to the whole team. The location to Etosha National Park is very, very good, about 20 km to Ombika.

It was the details. Welcome at the entrance, a fresh tea and a damp, cold towel. Questions about food intolerances. And above all… the fantastic staff. The lodge was stunning. There are many animals to see at the waterhole.

What a great lodge just before Anderson Gate. If I could, I would give even more stars. Everything here is just perfect. Extremely courteous service and great food. The lodge’s furnishings are very high quality. Appropriate value for money. A morning game drive is also highly recommended. Thank you, Chamberlain!
