Morning Scenic Drives

Out and About in the First Light of Day

In the early morning hours, we head out into the landscape when the air is still cool and nature slowly awakens. The light is clear, shadows lie flat across the ground, making structures and tracks clearly visible.

The drives lead through the respective reserve around the lodge. With a bit of luck, you might spot animals that are active in the cool hours and make use of the open, quiet surroundings.

As the light increases, the landscape changes step by step – colors become brighter, movements increase, and the day noticeably begins.

Morning Drive in the Kalahari Dunes

Morning Drive in the Kalahari Dunes

With the first rays of sun, the drive leads out into the dune landscape. In the still untouched sand, tracks become visible, telling stories of the night – fine lines, trails, and movements stretching across the surface.

The soft light gently highlights the shapes of the dunes, while movement gradually appears in the landscape. Animals become active, crossing the open plains or remaining near their nocturnal paths.

A peaceful start to the day in a landscape that changes with every moment.

Morning Drive at Hohenstein

In the morning, the drive leads through the landscape in front of the Hohenstein Massif, the highest mountain in the Erongo Mountains. Between open plains and individual granite formations, the surroundings appear clear and in soft morning light.

The first light falls on the slopes and foothills of the massif, tracing the structures of the rock – bright areas alternate with shaded sections, rock formations stand out clearly from the surrounding bushland.

The gaze repeatedly wanders through the landscape – across open plains, along bush lines, and towards the rocks. It is the attentive search that characterizes this moment: perceiving small movements, recognizing details – and the brief, almost surprising moment when a shadow suddenly turns into an animal.

Ondili Lodges, Regions, and Experiences

Each Ondili Lodge is inextricably linked to its surroundings—and that is exactly where the local experiences come from. What guests can do here isn't just based on a fixed program, but arises from the landscape itself.

Every region reveals different facets of Namibia: sometimes the focus is on the wildlife, sometimes on the vastness of the landscape or exploring on foot. The lodges embrace these unique features.

This creates an interplay of location, accommodation, and activity that makes each region uniquely experienceable – and invites you to discover Namibia from different perspectives.

What Our Guests Say

Do you want a dream vacation? Then come here. There is nothing you would miss here. It starts with the reception, continues with the 75 m² tented apartment, the very good service, the best pool of all 10 lodges we had on this trip, very fine food, excellent service, and very friendly staff. Waterhole directly in front of the lodge. During dinner, rhinos came, numerous zebras, wildebeest, steenboks, impalas, etc. Definitely do the game drive, Alloys is a very good guide.

If you are looking for a lodge at the central south entrance of Etosha National Park that does not cater to mass tourism and offers excellent value for money, this lodge is definitely the right choice. We at Leaflove Safari gladly recommend this lodge to our discerning guests with a clear conscience.

Albert Voigts

Perfect stay, everything we enjoyed was of the highest quality. Accommodation was very spacious, which was a blessing after 6 nights of camping with some thunderstorms. The kitchen offered us a culinary delight of the highest quality every evening. It was a great pleasure to enjoy our stay at the newest Ondili Lodge (without reservation). The staff was very friendly and highly attentive. Thank you to the whole team. The location to Etosha National Park is very good, about 20 km to Ombika.

It was the details. Greeting at the entrance, a fresh tea and a moist, cold towel. The questions about food intolerances. And above all… the fantastic staff. The lodge was stunning. There are many animals to see at the waterhole.

What a great lodge just before Anderson Gate. If I could, I would give even more stars. Everything is just perfect here. Extremely courteous service and great food. The lodge’s furnishings are very high quality. Reasonable value for money. A morning game drive is also highly recommended. Many thanks, Chamberlain!
