Namib Outpost Lodge

Greater Sossusvlei Area

The region south and east of Sossusvlei is one of Namibia’s most diverse landscapes. It features a variety of landscapes – from open plains to mountain ranges up to 2,000 meters high, sandy dunes, and canyons with unexpectedly rich vegetation. These immediate transitions create the basis for a correspondingly diverse wildlife.

The 140,000 ha Wildland Namib Tsaris Nature Reserve is one of several private protected areas in this region. Independently, they pursue the same goal: to preserve large habitats and create space for natural development.

At the same time, this region is one of the driest areas in Namibia. The effects of climate change are particularly noticeable here, which further increases the importance of preserving this sensitive landscape.

The Namib Outpost and Desert Homestead Lodge are located within the Wildland Namib Tsaris Nature Reserve.

Namib Outpost Lodge

Namib Outpost Lodge

Deeply embedded in the Namib desert landscape, the Outpost is situated at the foot of a granite mountain. The vastness and solitude of the Namib are transformed into an experience at the Outpost. The landscape in the Sossusvlei region is of breathtaking beauty, yet also characterized by the merciless harshness of heat and drought.

The chalets are designed for maximum privacy. Secluded terraces, a star-gazing bed, and an outdoor shower make experiencing the desert comfortable even outdoors.

Namib Region

Sossusvlei and Deadvlei are among Namibia’s most famous landscapes and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Namib Sand Sea – making them absolute must-sees in the country.

The region is characterized by a sea of red dunes around Sossusvlei. With increasing distance, vast grass and sand plains open up, stretching over large areas and shaping the landscape. Dry riverbeds with camel thorn acacias traverse these plains, while isolated, sand-encircled inselbergs create striking accents. The Tsaris Mountains, a mountain range up to 2,000 meters high, form the backdrop. Despite the extreme conditions, a surprisingly diverse wildlife adapted to the Namib’s environment can be found here. At the same time, this region is one of the country’s most sensitive landscapes.

Several large private nature reserves are located in these very landscapes. The Wildland Namib Tsaris Nature Reserve, which belongs to Ondili, is one of them.

Ecology

Ecology

Ondili places the highest value on ensuring that the operation of Ondili Lodges results in nature conservation. This commitment is the foundation and driving force of the Ondili Group.

  • Since its inception, Ondili has invested its entire annual profit into nature conservation.
  • For every guest room in an Ondili lodge, Ondili has created at least 1,000 ha (10 km²) of new nature reserve in Namibia and maintains these reserves.
  • At Ondili, electricity and hot water are predominantly generated by our own solar power systems.
  • The local population benefits from the creation of jobs in the lodges' nature reserves and in the craft sectors.
  • Firewood for the evening campfires is sourced from bush clearing measures necessary for the regeneration of natural areas in Ondili's northern nature reserves.
  • Involvement of local farmers in nature conservation concepts

What Our Guests Say

Simply a perfect vacation all around. Staff, food, the individual lodges. It doesn’t get any better. The drive to Sossusvlei takes a while, but the journey is the destination with a beautiful sunrise. By the way, our waiter was Robert, who took care of us very attentively.

Helga Scaturro

This lodge is undoubtedly one of the best I have ever seen. The staff is wonderful – so friendly and welcoming – that I truly felt at home and part of a family. Everything about this stay was perfect, and I can’t wait to come back.

Ibrahim Hanouneh

Our two-day stay at Namib Outpost was incredible. The rooms were fantastic. The stargazing, the scenery, the food – all fantastic. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It’s a bit of a drive from the gate to Sossusvlei, but the experience was well worth it.

Austin Hittel

My stay at Namib Outpost in Namibia was simply exceptional. This luxurious eco-lodge, located on the edge of the famous Namib Desert, offers a unique blend of raw natural beauty and refined comfort. The accommodation was extraordinary. The spacious chalet-style suite offered panoramic desert views, absolute privacy, and thoughtful details that made the stay incredibly comfortable – from the elegant outdoor shower to the cozy indoor lounge area. The meals at the lodge were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Dining under the stars, surrounded by the silence of the desert, is an experience I will never forget.

Zaim Lee

Beautiful, intimate lodge with breathtaking views. Everything was renovated in 2023 and is impeccable in terms of design and comfort. Lovely staff. A magical moment, especially from the high terrace overlooking the valley with a drink at the end of the day. The lodge has a massage room with magnificent views.
