Kalahari Sundowner Drive

Out and about in the last light of the day

In the late afternoon, you head out into the landscape in open off-road vehicles. The drives lead through the respective reserve surrounding the lodge. With a little luck, animals can be spotted while the guide points out the unique features of the environment and explains the natural connections.

At sunset, we stop at a selected spot. As the sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, it creates a moment to pause and enjoy—with a view of the landscape and a cool drink to round off the day.

As the light fades, the landscape visibly changes: mountain ridges, dunes, and plains stand out more clearly, long shadows trace their contours, while heaven and earth turn into warm shades of red, brown, and violet. As darkness falls, the path leads back to the lodge.

Sundowner drive in the red dunes of the Kalahari

Between the curved lines of the red dunes, the landscape changes with every meter. Sand crests stretch like waves through the terrain, with flat valleys and sparse grass growth in between.

As the sun sinks, the sand begins to glow: first in warm orange tones, then in deep red, while the shadows trace the shapes of the dunes more sharply. The contours appear almost graphic—a moment on one of the dunes with a view over the sandy landscape and a refreshing drink in hand as the last rays of sun disappear behind the horizon.

Ondili Lodges, Regions, and Experiences

Each Ondili Lodge is inextricably linked to its surroundings—and that is exactly where the local experiences come from. What guests can do here isn't just based on a fixed program, but arises from the landscape itself.

Every region reveals different facets of Namibia: sometimes the focus is on the wildlife, sometimes on the vastness of the landscape or exploring on foot. The lodges embrace these unique features.

This creates an interplay of location, accommodation, and activity that makes each region uniquely experienceable – and invites you to discover Namibia from different perspectives.

What Our Guests Say

Do you want to have a dream vacation? Then come here. There is nothing here that you would miss. It starts with the welcome, continues through the 75 m2 tented suite, the very good service, the best pool of all 10 lodges we had on this trip, very fine food, excellent service, and very friendly staff. Waterhole right in front of the lodge. During dinner, rhinos came by, along with numerous zebras, wildebeests, steenbok, impalas, etc. Definitely do the game drive; Alloys is a very good guide.

If you are looking for a lodge at the central southern entrance of Etosha National Park that is not dedicated to mass tourism and offers a high-quality value ratio, you will definitely reach your goal at this lodge. We at Leaflove Safari are happy to recommend this lodge to our discerning guests with a clear conscience.

Albert Voigts

Perfect stay, everything we enjoyed was of the highest quality. The accommodation was very generously sized, which was a complete relief after 6 nights of camping with several thunderstorms. The kitchen offered us a culinary delight of the highest quality every evening. It was a great pleasure for us to enjoy our stay at the newest Ondili Lodge (without a reservation). The staff was very friendly and highly attentive. Thanks to the whole team. The location relative to Etosha National Park is very, very good, at about 20 km to Ombika.

It was the details. Welcome at the entrance, a fresh tea and a damp, cold towel. Questions about food intolerances. And above all… the fantastic staff. The lodge was stunning. There are many animals to see at the waterhole.

What a great lodge just before the Anderson Gate. If I could, I would give even more stars. Everything is just right here. Extremely courteous service and great food. The lodge equipment is very high quality. Reasonable price-performance ratio. A morning game drive is also recommended. Thank you, Chamberlain!
