Damaraland Region
Many visitors consider Damaraland, especially the valley around Twyfelfontein, which is crisscrossed by the ephemeral riverbeds of the Abahuab and Huab, to be Namibia’s most beautiful landscape. Dark granite mountains and hills in various shades of brown, gray, and black stand out against the light desert sand. Ana trees grow in the valleys of the ephemeral rivers—they form the lifeblood of this landscape. The valleys are the few areas where life can persist permanently, thus shaping the entire fabric of the region.
Here you can also encounter desert elephants that have adapted to these extreme conditions. They follow the ephemeral riverbeds over long distances, know the few watering holes, and specifically utilize the vegetation of the valleys—always in close connection with the landscape in which they live. Encounters with them are among the most special moments of a trip through Damaraland.

Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp
Located in what is perhaps Namibia’s most beautiful landscape, Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp is strategically positioned near many surrounding attractions, our absolute favorite being the game drive into the river valleys to see the desert elephants.
Safari tents in two categories are built along one of the characteristic granite boulder formations and look out over the vast, mopane-covered Huab valley. With its extensive outdoor area, the camp is an instant place of well-being. To enjoy the sunset spectacle—as it must be called—that nature provides here evening after evening, guests meet on the ridge of the local hill. The Mountain Bar delights with ice-cold drinks.
For dinner, the open-air buffet and grill open under the clear desert starlight. The shadows on the bizarre granite formations dance in the glow of the campfire.
